“Money is only a tool. It will take you wherever you wish, but it will not replace you as the driver.”-Ayn Rand
Would you trust an entirely autonomous self-driving vehicle to safely transport you and your family to your destination? On the one hand, being free from having to hold the wheel and keep your eyes on the road would be nice. It would allow you to better enjoy your favorite podcast or fully engage with your passengers. On the other hand, your ability to respond to mechanical or human error from other drivers would significantly decrease. These kinds of risk versus reward considerations aren’t just relegated to driving on the road.
We frequently see new investment products coming to market that tout being driven by artificial intelligence, quantitative modeling, and automation. Do these products offer innovative opportunities leading to easy money and outsized returns, or do they add risk while removing us from the equation?
A model or algorithm capable of forecasting market trends is only as good as how well it can quantify the endless variables that make up our market. Do you trust that these products can account for the complexities involved in geopolitics? Can they take your unique life circumstances into consideration before executing trades?
Until we can wholeheartedly answer, “YES!” to both questions, we will continue relying on our SCORE methodology to evaluate investment opportunities. We look into a company’s story: What is its history? How is it run? How does is it distinguish itself from competition? These are just some of the questions we ask. Additionally, we rely on fundamental analysis to ensure we have a firm understanding of their cash flow and profitability. Moreover, we look at what opportunities they may be able to capitalize.
Once we’ve gathered and considered all that data, we think about whether or not the investment makes sense for you and your family. It’s not a rapid process, but it is one we believe is worth the effort so we can best help our clients get where they’re trying to go.
What’s your SCORE? Let’s talk.
