Don’t overshare on social media platforms:
Do you see friends posting pictures on Facebook with beautiful locales with lovely vacations? You aren’t the only one seeing that data….so are scammers. Recently there has been a raft of thefts for high visibility athletes when playing away games. And those texts you keep receiving about toll bills you haven’t paid? What if it’s interconnected?
Best practice is to not overshare on ANY social media platform. Also, don’t accept invites from strangers you don’t know personally. Last, take your cell phone number off any social media platform. If you are wisely using two factor authentication, your cell number listed may increase the text phishing and potentially compromise your phone AND sensitive financial data. We heard one story of a toll scam that defrauded someone out of thousands of dollars before it was stopped.
